Transformation of human resources management

There is hardly any other area where specialists are in such high demand as in hospitals and other medical and care institutions. Recruiting therefore requires special requirements in order to convince potential applicants.

Challenge

Every year, the University Hospital Bonn treats around 47,000 inpatients, 350,000 outpatients and 30,000 emergency patients in its 32 clinics and 25 institutes. In order to provide patient care, it is essential to have enough good staff. Nevertheless, the recruitment process at the university hospital took up to six weeks. Up to 95 pages of paper were produced for each recruitment process, which were stored in an archive. The procedure was not only time-consuming due to the double entry of data, but also prone to errors.

Solution

With the introduction of the Pega platform, the existing IT silos were broken down and networked on a standardized interface. As the solution is also available as an app, hospital staff, most of whom do not have their own computer workstation, can access the central platform using their mobile device.

The added value

The entire recruitment process was digitized in just nine weeks. The recruitment process was reduced to 10 pages and the hiring procedure was shortened to two weeks. Functional changes and adjustments can be made by in-house project management, and as several employees have undergone on-the-job training with a Greenfield employee, the development work has been gradually internalized. The platform developed by Bonn University Hospital with Greenfield can also be used by other hospitals.
